Despite the changes in the global economy and in the work market, household labor continues to be conceived as women’s labor, whether paid or unpaid. As such, it is an intersectional phenomenon, considering the dimensions of gender, race, generation, and class. It is a demonstration of the inequality that remains alive and invisible in the private sphere, as a neglected and strong reality of global capitalism.
The concept household requires for tasks that «hold» the intimate and safe space of the «house». In this sense, these labors require repetitive actions that split attention through multitasks that involve affective responses in the midst of loneliness, which many times implies losing self-care. A situation that is invisible to the observer’s senses, and where women’s anger and love often coexist.
7 Days of Household Labor (7 Días de Trabajo Doméstico) reproduce sonidos de la intimidad de la vida cotidiana de algunas mujeres en sus hogares, con el objetivo de amplificar una realidad persistente hasta el día de hoy: la división sexual del trabajo doméstico. La instalación se ubicó en un lugar de tránsito, buscando que estas labores esenciales –con poco reconocimiento social e historicamente asociadas a labores de mujeres– fuesen escuchadas.
A pesar de los cambios en la economía global y en el mercado del trabajo, el trabajo doméstico sigue siendo concebido como un trabajo de las mujeres, sea este pagado o no. En ese sentido, este es un fenómeno interseccional, considerando dimensiones tales como género, raza, generación, y clase. El trabajo doméstico es una demostración de la inequidad que permanece viva e invisible en la esfera privada, como una realidad propia del capitalismo global.
El concepto de “household” requiere tareas que «hold» (sostienen) lo íntimo y el espacio seguro del «house» (hogar). Dicho esto, estas labores implican acciones repetitivas, en las que la atención se ve dividida en una suerte de multitasking, involucrando respuestas afectivas en medio de la soledad, lo que muchas veces implica una pérdida del auto-cuidado. Es una situación invisible a los sentidos de quién observa, y donde la rabia y el amor de las mujeres a menudo coexisten.

It
was shown as a sound installation, made with 7 speakers (so, there were 7
different tracks), representing the 7 days of the week. As we know,
household labors implies the 7 days of the week, no rest.
The speakers were placed on a staircase with different domestic objects hanging from the ceiling.
This version is the conjunction of those 7 tracks, united in only one mono track for simultaneous reproduction. That's how it becomes a sound piece itself.
