Anhelo de hogar, deseo a lo desconocido is an exhibition by the visual artist Elisa Grand. Through textiles, animations and ceramics, Elisa presents her artistic practice of the past few years, in which she explores her own experience of migrating from Chile to Berlin.

The exhibition took place at Fixotek, a self-run space in Berlin, from 16 to 26 October 2025.

The following fanzine was co-created by the artist and the curators, with contributions from Carolina Brown and Ignacio Alvizú, besides Antonia Grunefeld, Elisa Grand and Kika Echeverría.

All the images were created by Elisa Grand.

Inside, there is an appendix containing a paper fortune teller made up of images from Elisa’s symbolic world, as well as phrases from songs and thinkers who have inspired the artist and accompanied with her throughout her creative process.

Transitar entre espacios mientras se habita la incomodidad es desafiante. Sin aviso alguno, se yace desmembrada al mismo tiempo que se navega entre realidades, cosmovisiones, emociones y personas nuevas. Una se reconoce vulnerable, mientras intenta reconstituirse con las partecitas que lograron permanecer en una... y de otras que florecen sorpresivamente. Solo con el paso del tiempo las diferentes piezas se van conectando, hasta encarnar en un yo mutable. Un vaivén impredecible dicta el pulso. El ímpetu de la llama encendida gana terreno.

Vehemente, la pulsión creativa recuerda a esa montaña a quien toda su vida cobijó y enseñó de la inmensidad. La nostalgia reclama atención; sin embargo, la aventura no se deja opacar. ¿Acaso alguien explicó cómo es crearse una vida una y otra vez, mientras se deviene constantemente en alegría, desastre, goce y desazón? ¿Qué refugios encontramos entre tanta convulsión?

Esta exhibición es de quien ha habitado una ambigüedad que, lejos de diluirse, se ha transformado en pasión y desgarro, volcándose en una exclamación por crear y desbordar todo aquello que la contiene. Las obras de Elisa ofrecen una ventana a su mundo interior, uno cargado de imágenes vibrantes que remiten a la contradicción de una generación que pensó tenerlo todo, solo para descubrir la artificialidad de aquello. En sus tapices, animaciones y esculturas, se entrelazan formas y colores. De ellas emergen una abundancia de símbolos que contrasta con la fragilidad de los materiales utilizados, haciendo visible el anhelo y la vulnerabilidad que atraviesa a quienes se mantienen en un tránsito revuelto e insistente.

La invitación es a inmiscuirnos en nuestras fantasías, monstruos y deseos desde un lenguaje juguetón y alegre, demostrando con ello que, en medio de este mundo agitado, también es necesario reivindicar banderas de lucha que apelen a acompañarnos, expresar nuestro amor, vivir la amistad, llorar juntxs y bailar, cuidando siempre del humor a nuestro lado. Mantener viva la llama y la pulsión por vivir.

Moving between spaces while experiencing discomfort is challenging. Without warning, you find yourself dismembered while navigating different realities, worldviews, emotions and people. You recognise yourself as vulnerable as you attempt to rebuild yourself from the remaining fragments and the unexpected new pieces that emerge. Only with the passage of time do these pieces come together to form a mutable self. An unpredictable ebb and flow dictates the rhythm. The momentum of the burning flame gathers pace.

The creative impulse vehemently recalls the mountain that sheltered and taught her about vastness throughout her life. Nostalgia demands attention, but adventure refuses to be overshadowed. Can anyone explain what it's like to repeatedly create a life, experiencing joy, disaster, pleasure and unease along the way? Where can we find refuge amid so much turmoil?

This exhibition belongs to someone who has lived with ambiguity, which has not faded away but instead transformed into passion and rupture. All of this has overflowed into creation, pouring itself into everything that contains it. Elisa's works offer a glimpse into her inner world, filled with vivid imagery referencing the contradictions of a generation who thought they had it all, only to discover its artificiality. In her tapestries, animations and sculptures, shapes and colours intertwine. An abundance of symbols emerges from them, contrasting with the fragility of the materials used and revealing the yearning and vulnerability permeating those caught in turbulent and insistent transitions.

The invitation is to immerse ourselves in our fantasies, monsters and desires through playful and joyful language. This demonstrates that, in the midst of this hectic world, we must raise flags of struggle that call on us to support each other, express our love, live in friendship, cry together, dance and always keep humour by our side. It is about keeping the flame and the drive to live alive.
